Jensen & Skodvin’s church near Oslo inverts tectonic expectation by setting a masonry wall over a transparent base. Not at all wilful, this device adds new dimensions to our experiences of nature and the numinous. The result is a triumph of economy, and is a distinguished contribution to the very fine tradition of modern sacred spaces in Scandinavia.
