ELIGIBILITY
1 Who can enter
Eligible to enter are architects, and people in other design professions whose qualifications are recognised by their local accreditation organisation, provided that they are 45 years or younger during 2011. Entries are encouraged from individuals, groups, partnerships, and those working for larger practices. Those working for larger practices must provide written evidence from their principal in the employing office guaranteeing the work is that of the entrant(s).
2 Completed work
The AR + D Awards for Emerging Architecture celebrate excellence in completed work. Entries can be made for any building, interior, landscape, urban or product design.
3 Categories
Categories will not be chosen beforehand, but decided on by the Jury. Entries to previous awards represented some of the following areas:
- Buildings - new build and refurbishment: offices, shops, schools, houses, housing, industrial, transport, restaurants, recreational, cultural, municipal and religious
- Interiors - new build and refurbishment: similar to building category, in particular restaurants, shops, houses, clubs and galleries
- Urban design
- Street furniture - lights, bus stops, bollards, signs and post boxes
- Product design - light fittings, furniture, cladding and structural systems
- Landscape - soft and hard
- Bridges
- Temporary or portable structures - exhibition stands
- Theatre works
4 Age restriction
The age limit of 45 has been chosen on the basis that many emerging architects are unable to realise designs or develop an original vision before that time, whether because of the long education and training period, or because of lack of opportunity.
WINNING ENTRIES
5 Publication
Winners and highly commended entries will be published in the December 2011 issue of The Architectural Review and on the awards and magazine websites www.architecturalreviewawards.com and www.arplus.com.
6 Awards ceremony
The AR +D Awards ceremony will be held in London at the Royal Institute of British Architecture (RIBA). All winners will be invited to the event. Everyone who enters is welcome to join us to discover our winners and commended entries and to launch the start of the AR + D Emerging Architecture exhibition.
7 Lecture Series
It is our ambition to invite some winners and highly commended entrants to present their projects at the annual lecture series, alongside many well respected architects.
8 Exhibitions
Winning and other highly commended entries will be exhibited at the Awards ceremony at the RIBA and at subsequent exhibitions (schedule to be confirmed). Winning boards may be reproduced to protect originals.
9 Other media
We will provide information on all winning entries to other architectural magazines, newspapers and relevant media worldwide to build international recognition for our deserved winners.
10 Providing additional materials for publishing
Additional photography, drawings and other information from winning entrants will be urgently requested for the December publication during the week beginning 10th October 2011. Entry will acknowledge that The Architectural Review has the right to reproduce materials in whole or part without payment of copyright (where we are made aware of their names, photographers will be acknowledged).
11 Use of images in promotional material
The Architectural Review also reserves the right to make use of images of winning projects (both in print and digital media) for promotional material in connection with the Award. For instance, this might include publicising an exhibition (of winning entries), a lecture series (featuring the winning architects), or promoting the Award itself. Use of material in this capacity either in whole or part will not attract payment of copyright. Where we are made aware of their names, photographers will be credited.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
11 Entries
You may submit as many entries as you like, and each entry should show only ONE project. As there is a new Jury, work entered for previous awards may be resubmitted on new boards. Incomplete work, unrealised schemes, projects, CD-ROMS, videos, transparencies, models, prototypes and multiple schemes entered on one board will NOT be accepted.
12 Entry fees
Entry fee for each project submitted if £150 + VAT at 20%. Payment can be made by credit card online. Please follow the steps on the website to pay online before submitting your A2 boards. Entries will not be accepted without payment.
13 Boards
Each entry should be mounted on two A2 sized boards (landscape or portrait format), and must include photography (in either colour or black and white), drawings and, if appropriate, a brief written description in English. The identity and location of the submission is helpful to the Jury. Maximum board size is 420 x 594mm (approx. 16.5 x 23.4in) - preferable lightweight art board or equivalent. Please also supply a CD containing high resolution PDFs of both boards, at A2 size.
14 Anonymity
To ensure anonymity in judging, no names of entrants or collaborating parties may appear on any part of the board. When you register your details online, you will be given a reference number. PLEASE ENSURE THIS REFERENCE NUMBER IS WRITTEN ON THE BACK OF ALL SUBMITTED MATERIALS. For extra security, please include an international telephone number on the back of the board. Only after the Jury has made its decision will the identity of the winners be revealed.
15 Registration & Payment online
You must complete an online registration form for each entry you wish to submit. Entries must be paid for online prior to sending in your A2 boards or they will not be eligible for entry. Please also ensure that you write your correct reference code, supplied to you via email and indicated on the website when you register, on the back of all submitted materials: two A2 boards and CD.

16 Delivery
Entries should be properly packaged and clearly marked FAO Paul Hewitt, Emap Inform, AR + D Awards for Emerging Architecture, Greater London House, Hampstead Road, London NW 1 7EJ, United Kingdom.
Please ensure that entries are delivered by the closing date. Entries posted on the closing date will be accepted if they are received before Friday 30th September 2011.
17 Documentation
VERY IMPORTANT
Your entry must be marked as NCV (no commercial value) on any courier documentation. The organisers will NOT accept any courier charges or taxes resulting from delivery. Personal deliveries to the AR offices are accepted during normal working hours.
18 Return of entries
Unfortunately entries cannot be returned. The organisers assume no liability for loss or damage of entries.
